How do I synchronize my selection (audience) to Mailchimp?

2-minute read

With MIP, you can synchronize an audience directly to Mailchimp. You decide whether you want to create a new list or use an existing one.

Below you will find the complete procedure.

1 – Create an action in MIP Target / Engager #

  • Go to MIP → Target / Engager

  • Create a new action

  • Select as channel: Email (EM)

2 – Choose the right Email Gateway #

On the second page of your promotion:

  1. Go to the Gateway section

  2. Select from the picklist: Mailchimp

Your action will soon be synchronized with Mailchimp.

3 – Decide how you want to synchronize #

Within the gateway settings, you have two options:

Option 1 – Create a new list in Mailchimp #

✔ Check the "Create new list" option.

What's happening?

  • MIP automatically creates a new list in Mailchimp

  • The list will have the same name as your campaign name in MIP.

  • The selected contacts will be synchronized to this new list.

👉 This is useful when:

  • You want a separate campaign environment

  • You do not want to impact existing segmentations

  • You are temporarily working with a separate target group

Option 2 – Use existing Mailchimp list #

☐ Leave the "Create new list" option unchecked.

You will now see an additional field:

  • Picklist: “Select your Mailchimp list”

This list shows all available lists in your Mailchimp account.

Select the list in which you want to synchronize the audience here.

What exactly is synchronized? #

During synchronization:

  • Are the standard fields (such as email, name, etc.) forwarded to Mailchimp?

  • Is a tag automatically added to each contact?

Important: #

The name of the tag = the action name in MIP Engager

This ensures that you can easily find the selection in Mailchimp.

How do you use the selection in Mailchimp? #

In Mailchimp, go to:

  1. The selected list

  2. Create a segment

  3. Filter by: Tag = [Name of your action in MIP]

This allows you to use this synchronized target group for your campaign.

Best Practice #

  • Use clear action names in MIP (e.g. 20260815 EM Back To School)

  • Avoid duplicate synchronizations with different action names if you want to reuse the same target group.

If the synchronization is not visible in Mailchimp:

  • Verify that the correct gateway was selected.

  • Check whether the action was carried out effectively (the calendar shows a "V" for the action name).

  • Ensure you are viewing the correct Mailchimp list.
